The 1972 Chevrolet Vega Yenko Stinger was a collaboration between Chevrolet and the legendary performance dealer Don Yenko - a man famous for turning mild-mannered Chevys into beasts (like the Yenko Camaro, Nova, and Chevelle). The was a limited-edition performance version of the Chevy Vega - Yenko aimed to transform the lightweight Vega into a sporty, European-style driver’s car - similar in spirit to an Alfa Romeo or BMW 2002 - but at an affordable price. Only about 200 units were produced, making it one of the rarest Yenko-tuned Chevrolets ever built. Even though it wasn’t a muscle car, the 1972 Yenko Vega Stinger is a cool piece of automotive history showing how Don Yenko’s performance vision evolved during a changing era. It’s part of a fascinating transition from brute-force horsepower to tuning, handling, and efficiency.
