39. Chevrolet Camaro IROC-Z

39. Chevrolet Camaro IROC-Z

1986

After 1985 the Camaro regained some of its reputation as a muscle car thanks to the arrival of the IROC-Z version. The IROC-Z, launched in 1985, was essentially a Z28 with some improvements. For example, it had lower ground clearance thanks to the installation, in the suspension, of shorter firmer springs, shock absorbers developed by Bilstein and thicker stabiliser bars. and had Goodyear unidirectional “Gatorback” tyres mounted on 16-inch wheel rims (those of the Z28 were 15-inch). The only new mechanical feature was the incorporation in the 5-litre engine of the intake system used in the Chevrolet Corvette of the period, which increased the V8’s power to 215 hp.
